IPL 2020: List of players retained and released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the auction

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have officially announced their retained and released players list. Former Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has been released from the SRH squad after he was banned by the ICC for not reporting corrupt approaches.

SRH have released a total of five players including Shakib and they are: Yusuf Pathan, Deepak Hooda, Martin Guptill and Ricky Bhui. Yusuf’s release is a little bit surprising as the Baroda all-rounder had a brilliant season with them in 2018. But he couldn’t replicate a similar form in the previous season. Though one would’ve hoped for the SRH to stick with him given the experience he brings to the table.

Hooda also endured a disappointing IPL 2019 season despite getting a chance to play 11 matches. He averaged only 10.66 in seven innings and struggled to finish games for his team.

Meanwhile, Guptill was roped in by the SRH to effectively replace Jonny Bairstow late in the tournament. The Black Caps opener didn’t perform up to his reputation in the three matches he played. He could score only 81 runs.

Ricky Bhui, on the other hand, got a single game to prove his mettle in the previous season and he scored only 7 runs.

Retained players

The Hyderabad heavyweights led by New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson have retained their captain along with swashbuckling opener David Warner, who made his IPL return last season following his completion of 12-months ban from all forms of cricket.
