Australia announce 14-man squad for ODI series against hosts India

The uncapped Marnus Labuschagne has been in the 14-man squad to face India in the three-match ODI series, scheduled in January next year.

Assistant coach Andrew McDonald will be leading the group as Justin Langer has taken a rest.

The World Cup trio of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Nathan Lyon will continue to play in the Big Bash League (BBL) while the national side visits the subcontinent.

Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been picked for India tour despite being ruled out of the second Test against New Zealand at the MCG with a hamstring strain. He will also be unavailable for the upcoming Boxing Day Test in Sydney.

“The performance of the top order at home through the T20 series was very strong, so we look for that to continue in the Indian ODI series,” said Australia team selector Trevor Hohns on Tuesday.

“We also believe Marnus Labuschagne is ready for his international white-ball debut after his strong form for Queensland in this form of the game.”

Shaun Marsh, Usman Khawaja, and Nathan Coulter-Nile have been dropped, while Jason Behrendorff is unavailable due to injury.

Australia and India will lock horns in Mumbai (Jan 14), Rajkot (Jan 17) and Bengaluru (Jan 19), respectively.

Australia squad:

Aaron Finch (c), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Peter Handscomb, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne, Kane Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Ashton Turner, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
