Cricketing world extends greetings to fans on Christmas

December 25 is celebrated as Christmas Day, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas Day is a public holiday in most nations across the world.

December 25 was fixed as the birth date of Jesus Christ in the early-to-mid fourth century by the Western Christian Church. For Christians, the belief is that God came into the world in the form of man to atone for the sins of humanity, rather than the exact birth date, which is considered to be the primary purpose in celebrating Christmas on this day.

The Christmas spirit has taken over the cricketers with batting legend Sachin Tendulkar leading the wishes on Twitter.

Tendulkar, who has over 31 million followers on his official Twitter account, wished for happiness and a wonderful time for his fans with their family and friends.

“Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. May this Christmas bring lots of happiness to our hearts and homes. I hope you have a wonderful time with family and friends,” Tendulkar, regarded as one of the finest batsmen to have graced the game, wrote in his tweet.

“Merry Christmas to everyone. May this lovely festival of Joy bring along with it love, peace, hope, happiness & harmony in abundance to each one of us. #MerryChristmas,” tweeted Yuvraj Singh.
