ICC Test Rankings: Virat Kohli finishes 2019 on top, Quinton de Kock breaks into top-10

Indian captain Virat Kohli continued his outstanding form in 2019 and finished the year as the top-ranked batsman in the latest released ICC Test rankings. With 928 points, he was quite ahead of Steve Smith (911) and Kane Williamson (822).

Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, who was ranked 110th at the start of the year, finished at the fourth spot. His 63 and 19 against New Zealand in Melbourne Test helped him to gain one more point to surpass India’s Cheteshwar Pujara.

Quinton de Kock’s recent performance against England (95 and 34), which got him the ‘Player of the Match’ award, has helped him to jump eight positions to reach the tenth place.

Among bowlers, Australia’s Pat Cummins remains at the top with 902 points while his compatriot Mitchell Starc has fallen from the fifth to seventh position.

South Africa veteran pacer Vernon Philander has moved up three places. In contrast, India’s duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami have progressed two points each and finished at the 9th and 10th spots, respectively.

The Kiwi pacer Neil Wagner has leapfrogged South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and reached the second place.

Jason Holder and Jasprit Bumrah are the only bowlers in the top-10 who have successfully retained their positions. Holder is placed at fourth while Bumrah comfortably sits at the sixth spot.
