Top 5 players with most international catches in this decade (2010-2019)

The past decade had seen the modern cricket shaping up. The already established legends either left or were close to bidding farewell to this beautiful game. The new generation had the responsibility to carry on the legacy and write fresh definitions of cricket. Without a doubt, the modern-day cricketers have successfully done what their seniors expected them to do.

Some players who are ruling the game currently, took baby steps when this decade started. The decennium saw outstanding batsmen, tremendous bowlers, and the unbelievable fielders. The fielding department has improved a lot during the past decade. So, it’s essential to acknowledge the best fielders who took the maximum number of catches from 2010 to 2019.

Let’s have a look at five players (excludes wicket-keepers) who grabbed the maximum number of catches in this decade:

Virat Kohli

India captain Virat Kohli who holds the no.1 position in ICC’s Tests and ODIs rankings tops in the fielding department as well. The Delhi-born cricketer has taken 234 international catches, and it’s the most by any fielder.

Ross Taylor

New Zealand’s aggressive batter Ross Taylor is famous for his flick and pull shots. The 35-year-old cricketer is also known for his impressive fielding. The Kiwi player has grabbed 215 international catches, and he sits at the second position.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith, the no.2 batsman in the latest released ICC Test rankings, is known for his acrobatic efforts in the slip region. During the recently concluded Test series against the Blackcaps, Smith left everyone in surprise after his incredible catch to dismiss Kane Williamson. In the past decade, the Sydney born cricketer has taken 203 catches in international cricket.

Joe Root

England’s Test team skipper Joe Root comes at fourth in this list. Root’s side recently faced a loss in the first Test against South Africa in Centurion. The Yorkshire player took 202 catches in this decade.

Hashim Amla

South Africa’s genius batter Hashim Amla doesn’t play international cricket nowadays as the right-hander took retirement from the game this year. However, his impact on the game is still visible as he is the fifth player who has taken the maximum number of catches in this decade. Amla grabbed 170 catches in international cricket from 2010-19.
