Twitter erupts as Australia thrash Pakistan in the Adelaide Test

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon picked up another five-wicket-haul as Australia defeated Pakistan by an innings and 48 runs on Day 4 of the second Test and clean swept the series 2-0 on Monday at the Adelaide Oval.

Lyon starred with the ball and accounted for the wickets of half-centurions Shan Masood and Asad Shafiq, as hosts wore down a stubborn Pakistan.

The visitors resumed day four of the pink ball Test on a precarious 39 for three with Masood on 14 and Shafiq not-out eight after being bowled out for 302 in their first innings and forced to follow on. It followed Australia’s mammoth 589 for three declared, built around David Warner’s sensational 335 not out – the 10th highest Test score of all time.

Needing another 248 to force the Aussies to bat again and avoid a second successive innings defeat, Pakistan had a decent crack but were eventually bundled out for 239.
