On Wednesday, India’s left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav did something which no other Indian bowler has done in the past.
Kuldeep created history by becoming the first Indian bowler to pick up more than one hat-trick in international cricket.
The wrist-spinner achieved the feat during the 2nd ODI between India and West Indies at the YS Rajashekara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
During the match, Kuldeep’s first spell was costly as he leaked plenty of runs, but he returned as a warrior to pick up the wickets of Shai Hope, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph in the last three balls of the 33rd over.
Kuldeep entered his name into record books as it was his 2nd hat-trick in ODI cricket. His first hat-trick came against Australia at the Eden Garden in 2017.
Kuldeep joined the elite list of bowlers – Lasith Malinga, Wasim Akram, Chaminda Vaas, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Trent Boult – to pick up more than one ODI hat-trick.
Sri Lankan veteran Malinga leads the list with 3 ODI hat-tricks while all the others have picked up 2 in the 50-over format of the game.
Kuldeep also becomes the 4th Indian bowler to pick up a hat-trick in 2019 after Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Deepak Chahar.
Here’s the video:
Shami picked up a hat-trick in the 2019 World Cup while Bumrah took 3 in 3 during the Test series against West Indies in the Caribbean Islands.
Right-arm fast bowler Chahar picked up a hat-trick against Bangladesh in the recently-concluded T20I series at home.
Earlier, in the match, Team India made a mammoth total of 387/5 courtesy of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul’s centuries. In response, West Indies could only reach 280 and lost the match by 107 runs.
Rohit, for his incredible innings, got facilitated by ‘Man of the Match’ award.
