Aleem Dar, who broke Steve Bucknor’s record of umpiring in the most number of Test matches during the ongoing Day-Night Test between Australia and New Zealand, had a horrible experience on Day 3 of the game at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
The veteran umpire was attempting to avoid a throw at the stumps when Kiwi all-rounder Mitchell Santner, who was racing to the ball, hit him from behind.
Replays showed the pair bumped knees, with the 51-year-old coming off second best.
A sheepish Santner signaled for the medical team to enter the field as Dar laid down on the turf clutching his left knee in pain.
He received treatment for several minutes, with a Black Caps medico bringing out the magic spray before applying a compression sock.
