After the end of 2019, many cricket experts, former cricketers, and boards of various nations have disclosed their team of the decade.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) also came up with its team of the decade for all formats.
Now, cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has revealed his Test team of the decade on Twitter.
Aakash has picked only two Indians in his team. Captain Virat Kohli and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin were the two Indians picked by Aakash in his Test team of the decennium.
The former Indian cricketer has chosen Australia’s David Warner and England’s Alastair Cook in the form of openers. Warner scored 7000-plus runs in the past ten years, whereas Cook has clubbed the maximum (8818) runs in the last decade.
England’s current Test team skipper Joe Root has been picked for the No.3 spot while ‘run-machine’ Kohli for No.4 position. Kohli’s competitor Steve Smith will bat at No.5 in Aakash’s team.
For the all-rounder spot, Aakash has picked Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, while New Zealand’s BJ Watling has been named as the wicket-keeper.
Shakib has scored over 3000 runs and claimed 162 wickets in the past decade. However, Aakash has ignored England’s Ben Stokes who also showcased his terrific talent in the past few years. Stokes amassed 3787 runs and took 139 wickets in the last decennium.
Among bowlers, Aakash has picked the Proteas pacer Dale Steyn, along with the speedster duo of England; James Anderson and Stuart Broad. The trio has taken 1099 wickets in the past ten years.
India’s Ravichandran Ashwin is the lone spinner in Aakash’s Test team of the decade. He has also named former South African skipper AB de Villiers as the 12th man for his side.
Here is Aakash Chopra’s team of the decade:
