ICC U19 World Cup 2020: India almost into the quarter-finals after a thumping win over Japan

Indian team’s superior performance continues in the ongoing U19 World Cup as they crunched the first-timers Japan by ten wickets.

Indian bowlers completely devastated the Japanese batting line-up folding them on just 41 runs. This was also the joint second-lowest score in the history of the Under 19 World Cup.

Kartik Tyagi kicked-off the proceedings after taking two wickets consecutively in the fifth over of Japan’s innings. Then came the leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi who dismantled Japan’s top-and-middle order claiming four wickets. He finished off with outstanding figures of 8-3-5-4.

The Indian openers wasted no time in chasing down the low total. The duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kumar Kushagra took just 29 balls to win the game for India by ten wickets.

India, who are now almost into the quarterfinals, will next face New Zealand on Friday (Jan 24) at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein.

Brief Scores:

Japan 41 all-out in 22.5 overs (Shu Noguchi 7; Ravi Bishnoi 4-5. Kartik Tyagi 3-10) lost to India 42-0 in 4.5 overs (Yashaswi Jaiswal 29*, Kumar Kushagra) by 10 wickets.
