Virat Kohli was caught running on the pitch in India’s narrow win over Australia in the second ODI at Rajkot on Friday.
During the first innings, Kohli ran on the danger area in the 42nd and 43rd over but on neither occasion was spoken to by the umpires, though his teammate Ravindra Jadeja was given a warning for the same offence in the 47th over.
Australia was handed a five-run penalty in the third Test against New Zealand at SCG after Marnus Labuschagne was given a warning and then David Warner was deemed to have reoffended chasing a quick single on a pitch that was deteriorating quickly.
As per the rules of the sport, any team whose player runs on the playing area of the pitch is handed a 5-run penalty. And, as far as the opinions of some fans and experts go, the same should have been the case with Kohli.
Shane warne's curse twice he called that Virat kohli running on middle of the pitch, umpires should talk with him, warn him… But Virat may be fined for that…. #INDvAUS

How does @imVkohli get away with running down the middle of the pitch more then once. Yet everyone else gets warned and penalised even @imjadeja was warned.

Unfair. Some strange umpiring. Who’s the umpire?

Kohli and India get away with almost everything. 👎 @ICC

Always different rules for @BCCI.

Always 2 sets of rules for this team and Kohli.
If he fires up, it’s called passion.
If another country does it, it’s called disrespectful, not in the spirit of the game, cheating.— 🅃🄸🄽🄶🄰🅂 (@Tingas75) January 17, 2020
