Manish Pandey had an outstanding day both with the bat and on the field during the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Friday. He first played an enterprising innings to take India past 200 and then took a sharp catch in the deep to dismiss Angelo Mathews. However, what stood out the most was the manner in which he affected the run out of Oshada Fernando.
It all happened in the fourth over of the second innings which was bowled by Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah. On the very first ball, Bumrah tossed one right on the pads of Kusal Perera and then appealed for an lbw.
After realizing that the Indian players were busy appealing, Perera and Fernando ran for a quick single. But, the single was never on and when Perera had already reached the non-strikers’ end, Fernando decided to sacrifice his wicket as Pandey ran to the striker’s end and dislodged the bails off.
India defeated Sri Lanka by 78 runs in the third T20I and won the series 2-0.
The Men in Blue scored 201/6 in their stipulated overs and bundled out the Islanders for 123.
