Jonty Rhodes names his seven favorite fielders, picks two Indians

Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes is undoubtedly one of the greatest fielders the game has ever produced. He wrote new definitions with his spine-tingling efforts in the outfield. His diving run-outs and acrobatic catches have always galvanized fans. One can’t forget the incident when the Proteas star ran Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq out during the 1992 World Cup.

After retiring from the international cricket, Jonty now assists various teams as a fielding coach. He has worked with the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) for nine seasons. In the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league, Jonty will join Kings XI Punjab.

Being considered as the best in the game, Jonty was recently asked about his favorite fielder by a Twitter user, and the South African took as many as seven names.

“@JontyRhodes8 sir. Who is your favorite fielder?,” asked a Twitter user.

In reply, the 50-year-old took names of Herschelle Gibbs, Ricky Ponting, AB de Villiers, Suresh Raina, Martin Guptill, Kieron Pollard, and Ravindra Jadeja.

“@hershybru @RickyPonting @ABdeVilliers17 @ImRaina @Martyguptill @KieronPollard55 @imjadeja to name a few,” tweeted Jonty.

Jonty played 52 Tests and 245 ODI games, in which the right-hander scored 2532 and 5935 runs. He took 139 international catches. Without any surprises, Jonty sits at the second place in ‘fielders affected most run-outs in international cricket’ list.

In 297 matches, Jonty affected 68 run-outs. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting tops the list with 80 run-outs.
