One of the most significant controversies which shocked Indian cricket fans – was the report of a rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
After the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup, it was reported that all was not well in the Indian dressing room as there was a massive rift between the Indian captain and vice-captain; Rohit even unfollowed Virat and his wife Anushka Sharma on social media platforms.
Rohit, who has completed 12 years in international cricket, while talking to PTI, said that while he was aware of what was being written about the controversy, he was disappointed when the families were involved. Recalling the incident, Rohit said even Kohli must have felt the same as his wife’s name was also included.
“Our families are there to support us, make us feel happy. When all these things were being written about, few of my friends came and told me and believe me or not; I was just laughing.
“But then it went on and on, and they dragged my family, and that was not on. You talk about me, but don’t drag my family as they genuinely don’t care about anything else. I think even Virat (Kohli) must have felt the same way as families are an important aspect of our lives.”
Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri, on the other hand, had dismissed all such reports and stated that there was no truth whatsoever in the speculations.
Regardless of what was written between the two, both Rohit and Kohli had a sensational 2019 – where they were two of the most successful batsmen across formats. In T20 internationals, they ended up as the joint highest run-scorers across teams.
Rohit is currently enjoying his time away from the national side after having an outstanding last year. The 32-year-old opener is not part of the Indian squad, which is presently taking on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series. However, he will be back for the ‘Men In Blue’ when they lock horns with Australia later this month.
