Virat Kohli breaks Ricky Ponting’s world record in Pune T20I

Indian captain Virat Kohli is known for scoring tons of runs and breaking the records irrespective of any format of the game. Kohli’s dexterity from the bat is always a treat to watch, and he once again showcased his excellence during the third and final T20 International against Sri Lanka in Pune, on Friday.

Kohli achieved another rare landmark when he became the quickest to reach 11,000 international runs as a captain. The right-hander became the second Indian and sixth international skipper to complete the 11,000-run mark.

Kohli grasped the milestone in the 13th over after taking a single off Lakshan Sandakan. The Delhi-born accomplished the achievement in 196 innings surpassing former Australia captain Ricky Ponting who did this in 252 innings.

Other captains who hold a similar distinction are Stephen Fleming, MS Dhoni, Alan Border, and Graeme Smith.

In the match, ‘Men in Blue’ thrashed Sri Lanka and sealed the series 2-0.

For the all-round performance, Shradul Thakur was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ award, while Navdeep Saini, who took five wickets in two matches, was gratified with the ‘Player of the Series’ award.
