VVS Laxman picks his India squad for T20 World Cup 2020, no place for MS Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan

With the T20 World Cup just a few months away, former cricketer VVS Laxman has picked his Indian squad for the marquee event. He revealed his team when the Men in Blue were busy playing against Sri Lanka in the second T20I at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.

Virat Kohli & Co. started the T20 World Cup year with an emphatic seven-wicket victory over the Islanders.

Laxman, meanwhile, did not pick senior opener Shikhar Dhawan and former captain MS Dhoni as he announced his India squad for the 2020 T20 World Cup on Star Sports India. Though both Dhawan and Dhoni are match-winners, their omission from Laxman’s team is not quite surprising.

Dhawan has not managed to get going in recent months and has struggled with his strike-rate. In his last 12 T20I innings, Dhawan has scored just 272 runs at a below-par strike-rate of 110.56. In his absence, KL Rahul performed exceptionally well. Even in the second T20I against Sri Lanka, Rahul did better than Dhawan. While Rahul scored 45 off 32 balls, Dhawan managed only 32 from 29 deliveries.

As far as MSD is concerned, there is no clarity over his future. However, speculations are rife that he could feature in the T20 World Cup and can make a comeback to the team after the Indian Premier League (IPL). Barring the omission of Dhoni and Dhawan, Laxman’s 15-man squad had expected names.

VVS Laxman’s squad for T20 World Cup 2020:

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Manish Pandey, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
