The two-match T20I series between Asia XI and World XI, slated to be played at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, has been scheduled on March 18 and 21.
Earlier, one of the matches between Asia XI and World XI was planned to be hosted at the newly built Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, due to delays in construction, the match will not be played at the renovated stadium in Gujarat.
Further, the opening game clashes with the dates of the third ODI between India and South Africa. The last game of the three-match ODI series will be played at the Eden Gardens on March 18 – it is also the date of the first T20I between World XI and Asia XI.
As per media reports, Motera stadium will now have a capacity of 1.1 lakh – making it the largest ground in the world.
The BCCI earlier announced that it will release five players for the all-star clash. It has to be seen who the players are once the squads are announced for both teams.
It is also reported that the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, will be present to inaugurate the newly-built stadium during his visit to India on February 24.
The last match played at the brand-old Motera Stadium was back in 2014 between India and Sri Lanka. Since then, no matches have been played on the turf as the 53000-seater was demolished for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project of building the largest cricket stadium in the world.
