Defending champions Australia will be hosting the 2020 edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, starting February 21. Top contenders who would look to challenge the Aussies are England, West Indies, India, and New Zealand.
The previous edition was held in West Indies, where Australia beat England in the finals of the tournament. After a successful venture in the ODI World Cup of 2018, the Indians reached the semis before their old foes England, knocked them out in the previous edition.
Thailand makes its way for the first time in the ICC tournament. Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, and Canberra are slated to host the multilateral event. Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will host the finals on March 8.
Australia, India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Bangladesh are pooled in Group A while South Africa, England, West Indies, Pakistan, and Thailand will feature in Group B. The top two teams from both groups qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.
Australia and India start as favourites to reach the semi-finals from Group A while England and West Indies are predicted to reach the knock-out stage of the competition.
Also, this is the first time that no-ball technology for the front foot will be used for women’s cricket in a tournament.
