IPL 2020: Rajasthan Royals pacer Jofra Archer ruled out of the upcoming season

England fast bowler Jofra Archer will miss the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injury.

Archer, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right elbow that is expected to put him out of action for three months.

He had struggled with an elbow problem since England’s first Test match against South Africa at Centurion, sat out of the second and third, and appeared to be set to play a part in the fourth at Johannesburg before breaking down in the warm-up before the start of the first day’s play.

Archer underwent scans on the trouble joint in the UK on Wednesday, which revealed the stress fracture.

The electrifying quick made his international debut in May 2019 – against Ireland through a one-day international in Malahide – but ended the year having bowled more overs for his country than any other English player.

Overs bowled by England players in 2019 (all formats):

  • Jofra Archer – 400.5
  • Stuart Broad – 367.4
  • Ben Stokes – 336.2
  • Chris Woakes – 299.4
  • Moeen Ali – 231.2
  • Sam Curran – 201.5
  • Adil Rashid – 201.5

Jofra Archer’s IPL stats:

  • Matches: 21
  • Wickets: 26
  • Economy: 7.52
  • Best Figures: 3/15
