The curtain-raiser of the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup (WC) started from February 15 in the form of warm-up games. These practice matches will help all the teams to buckle up for the mighty challenge in the upcoming mega event beginning from February 21 at Sydney.
Australia, being the four-time champions, are considered to be prime candidates to lift the WC trophy once again as the big show is happening in their backyard. Though, on a given day, any team can beat any side in the shortest format of the game.
All teams have been split into two groups. While Australia, India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh form Group A; England, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan and Thailand are in Group B.
Since the main show is just around the corner, let’s have a look at five batters who have smashed maximum runs in Women’s T20 WC overall:
1.) Suzie Bates
The all-rounder from New Zealand, Suzie Bates, is the leader in the list of ‘most runs in Women’s T20 WC’. The White Ferns player also has the record of scoring maximum runs in WT20Is. She is the only women cricketer to cross the 3000-run mark. When it comes to WC tournaments, then Suzie has clubbed 881 runs in 28 games.
2.) Stafanie Taylor
Another quality all-rounder in women’s cricket, Stafanie Taylor, has been tremendous with her consistency. The Caribbean cricketer has played 26 matches in T20 WC events and scored 797 runs. The Jamaican-born has amassed 2900 runs overall in T20 internationals and sits at the second spot in the list after Suzie Bates. When it comes to top-10 wicket-takers in the shortest format, then Taylor is at the 10th place with 84 scalps in 77 innings.
3.) Charlotte Edwards
The veteran English batter Charlotte Edwards has smashed 768 runs in T20 WC events and sits at the third spot in the list. The top-order batter has clubbed 2605 runs in the shortest format, and she is the fourth batter to score that many runs in the history of Women cricket. The Kent player has slammed 338 fours in T20Is, while at the WC events, she has smashed 99.
4.) Mithali Raj
A player that changed the Indian women cricket, Mithali Raj, sits at the fourth spot in ‘most runs in Women’s T20 WC’ list. She has amassed 726 runs in the mega-events. When it comes to overall T20Is, then Mithali has smashed 2364 runs – sixth most in the shortest format by a women cricketer.
5.) Meg Lanning
Australia women captain Meg Lanning is at the fifth position in ‘women cricketers who have smashed maximum runs in T20 WC’ list. The Singapore-born player has played 23 T20 WC matches and scored 711 runs. She has scored 2656 runs – third most in T20Is.
