Just a few hours later, the first match of the seventh edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup (WC) will take place in Australia. The host will meet India in the tournament opener on Friday (Feb 21) in Sydney.
This time, a total of ten teams – Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, England, West Indies, South Africa, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand – will fight out for the coveted trophy.
All teams have been split into two groups. While Australia, India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh form Group A, England, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan and Thailand are in Group B.
Before the teams lock horns with each other in the mega event, let’s have a look at five most successful bowlers in the ICC Women’s T20 WC.
1.) Ellyse Perry
Australia’s Ellyse Perry has been the most successful bowler in ICC events in the shortest format of the game. The Sydney-born cricketer has taken the maximum 36 wickets in 32 matches. In overall WT20Is, Perry has claimed 113 wickets – second most after Anisa Mohammed (118).
2.) Anya Shrubsole
England’s medium pacer Anya Shrubsole is second on the ‘most wickets in WT20 WC’ list. In her nine years of career in the T20 format, she has played 23 games and scalped 33 wickets. When it comes to overall record in WT20Is, then Anya sits comfortably at the fourth spot with 93 wickets to her name.
3.) Shabnim Ismail
The veteran South African pacer Shabnim Ismail has earned 30 wickets in Women T20 WC tournaments. The southpaw has been the pick of the bowlers for her nation. She has played 87 games in the shortest format and taken 94 wickets – third most after Anisa Mohammed and Elyyse Perry.
4.) Stafanie Taylor
The Caribbean all-rounder in women’s cricket, Stafanie Taylor, has been tremendous with her consistency. She has appeared for 26 matches at Women T20 WC events and taken 28 wickets with an average of 16.21 and an economy of 5.92.
In overall WT20Is, the right-arm spinner has scalped 84 wickets. The Jamaican-born has also smashed 2900 runs T20 internationals and sits at the second spot in the list of leading run-scorers after Suzie Bates (3195).
5.) Deandra Dottin
Another West Indian player on this elite list in Deandra Dottin. The all-rounder has claimed 26 wickets in 27 women T20 WC matches. Amongst West Indies women cricketers, Dottin has the best bowling figure in WC tournament when she took five wickets for five runs in 3.4 overs against Bangladesh in November 2018. In overall Women T20Is, the Barbados-born has smashed 2368 runs – fifth most by a women batter.
