Ricky Ponting’s XI took on Adam Gilchrist’s XI in a T10 match to generate funds for the calamity caused in Australia recently due to unstoppable bushfires. Australia’s ecosystem took a great hit with the raging fires consuming more than half of wildlife in the Oceanic country.
Stars from the past joined hands to raise funds for relief. The likes of Brian Lara, Yuvraj Singh, Wasim Akram, and several Australian legends feature in the Bushfire Bash in Junction Oval on Sunday.
Lara left the viewers awestruck with his blistering knock of 30 off just 11 deliveries. His cameo, coming at a strike rate of 272, consisted of three trademark extra cover boundaries and a couple of sparkling maximums.
The 50-year old Trinidadian, who hung up his cricketing boots in 2007, never looked out of touch as the southpaw treated the spectators with his array of signature shots. Lara, then, had to retire to allow the other stars in the team to bat, while receiving a standing ovation from the crowd.

Batting first, it was Ponting’s XI, which managed to get the better off Gilchrist’s XI by a margin of just one run. Shane Watson top-scored for Gilchrist’s XI reply, chasing 105 in the 10-over contest.
