A day ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit to Ahmedabad, a makeshift VVIP entry gate outside the newly-built cricket stadium in Motera collapsed due to gusty winds.
The entire incident was recorded by a bystander and was aired on various news channels. The makeshift entry gate was made of welded steel rods and covered in flex banners.
After few minutes, a portion of another makeshift gate structure at the stadium’s main entrance also collapsed due to the windy weather.
“The (VVIP) entry gate collapsed when fabrication work was going on. It was not a major incident. No one was injured in the incident,” Ajay Tomar, the Special Commissioner of Police in Crime Branch, was quoted as saying by NDTV.
As preparations were on in full swing for the arrival of #US President #DonaldTrump at #Motera Stadium in #Ahmedabad, a temporary gate crashed down at the venue.

As per the schedule, Trump and India’s PM Narendra Modi would soon be addressing a massive crowd comprising over 1 lakh people at the stadium. Ahead of the ‘Namaste Trump’ event, the two eminent personalities will brace the audience after taking part in a roadshow.
The reinforced Motera stadium is also going to garner much attention in the near future as it has been shortlisted to host the Day-Night Test match between India and England next year. The last time when the Three Lions visited India, they were served a 4-0 defeat in the five-match Test series. It will be fascinating to witness how the England squad fares against a dominant Indian side, especially against the Pink ball.
