India captain Virat Kohli was at his majestic best as he affected a sensational run-out with a brilliant in-the-air throw to dismiss New Zealand batsman Henry Nicholls during the first ODI of three-match series at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the 29th over when Ross Taylor and Nicholls tried to take a quick single off Jasprit Bumrah’s third delivery. It was a poor judgment from both the batters as they decided to take on the Indian skipper. Nicholls sensed he was in danger to make his ground and dived, however, Kohli hit bull’s eye with a forward-sprint at the striker’s end to conclude Nicholls’ stay in the middle.
Nicholls scored 78 runs off 82 balls, and his dismissal was confirmed after a DRS check.

Kohli’s brilliance led to a much-needed breakthrough. However, Team India bowlers leaked runs at will as Taylor went onto slam his 21st century in the format to take New Zealand home.
