Both Aaron Finch and KL Rahul have shared the same dressing room during the former’s stint at Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Finch was bought at INR 6.8 crores during the mega auctions of IPL 2018.
KXIP then decided to release Finch ahead of the auctions last year. The explosive Australian opener shifted his base camp to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after being sold at INR 4.4 crores.
Kings XI also decided to let go of their captain Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of the auctions. The wily off-spinner was then bagged by Delhi Capitals.
With the departure of Ashwin, Rahul was set to lead the Kings XI franchise in the thirteenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament was postponed till April 15.
Despite several opportunities, Rahul was not able to live up to his reputation of scoring tons in Test cricket.
As a result, he was dropped from the Tests and was out of reckoning in the limited-overs format for India, post-World Cup.
However, Rahul’s career took a drastic turnaround after scoring runs in domestic cricket. Translating his form from domestic cricket to T20 Internationals, he made his presence felt by scoring heaps.
By the end of the season, Rahul cemented his place, even in the ODI side, at number five. Also, Rahul performs a dual role, donning the gloves behind the wickets.
