The Covid-19 has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation and due to which major cricketing events across the globe have been cancelled. It has also forced players to go into quarantine as a precautionary measure.
South African speedster Dale Steyn, who was represented Islamabad United in the PSL 2020 (now called-off) has returned home, and from there he talked how the coronavirus outbreak has affected cricket.
While speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Steyn expressed that it’s difficult to describe the feeling as wherever you go, you see people talking about it.
“I don’t know how to describe it. Doesn’t matter where you go, everyone is talking about it – whether it is on an airplane or you are just popping into a grocery store. It just seems like it is the only topic of conversation. Any WhatsApp groups that I’m part of, it’s really tough to escape,” Steyn told ESPNCricinfo.
The Proteas bowler also revealed who he would love to be in isolation amongst his South African teammates.
The 36-year-old took the name of the current captain of the South Africa team, Quinton de Kock.
Steyn rated De Kock as one of his favourite people and said that the current SA captain is always watching fishing or cooking videos in his hotel room.
Steyn also disclosed that he hates cooking and can probably watch fishing videos while De Kock is cooking food.
“I would love to be in quarantine with someone like Quinny de Kock. He is one of my favourite people in the world. If you walk into his [hotel] room, he’s either making flies for fishing or he is watching a fishing video or he is watching a cooking video. And when you are at his house, he’s doing the same stuff,” he added.
“I hate cooking, so it would be great if he was. Because then I could watch all the fishing videos that he’s watching, I could help him do all the tying, and he could cook all the food. He’s a proper cook. He loves being around a braai,” Steyn added further.
When asked about whom he would not share the isolation period, Steyn took the name of Andy Phehlukwayo. Steyn revealed that he doesn’t like Phehlukwayo’s music taste. The veteran bowler also expressed that he would rather say he’s coronavirus positive than to listen to Phehlukwayo’s music.
“As for who I wouldn’t enjoy being around right now… no one in particular. But I guess just from a music point of view, maybe somebody like Andy Phehlukwayo. If I had to listen to the music that he listens to all day long, I might just go and say, I am coronavirus positive, lock me in some other quarantine,” concluded Steyn.
