There is no doubt that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world. Cricket fans across the globe watch this epic tournament taking place every year, and that’s the biggest reason behind the rise of its brand value.

As per Duff and Phelps – a global advisory firm that protects, restores, and maximizes value for clients – the Indian T20 league has grown 7% in overall valuation and has reached US$6.8 billion in 2019. In 2018, it was US$6.3 billion.

In INR terms, the IPL ecosystem value augmented by approximately 13.5% from INR 41,800 crores to INR 47,500 crores.

When it comes to individual franchisees, then on the basis of their performances, some have increased their brand value while some have witnessed a decrease.

Let’s have a look at all IPL franchisees and their brand value:

8.) Rajasthan Royals

The winner of the inaugural season of the cash-rich league, Rajasthan Royals, hasn’t performed up to mark since then, despite having big names like Steve Smith and Ben Stokes. And due to constant poor run in IPL, the Jaipur based franchise saw the fall in brand value to INR 271 crore from INR 284 crore in 2018.

7.) Kings XI Punjab

One of the biggest underperformers of IPL is Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Although in every season they spend a lot of money in acquiring the best names, still they haven’t been able to lift the coveted trophy. In the twelve seasons so far, KXIP have reached the top four only twice. However, they have witnessed a rise in their brand value to INR 358 crore.

6.) Delhi Capitals

The national capital-based Delhi Capitals (DC) did witness a change in their fortunes after they changed the name from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals. However, they are still in search of their first-ever IPL title. DC’s brand value after IPL 2019 was INR 374 crore.

5.) Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has always been a team which looks promising and have performed well on occasions. Under the captaincy of David Warner, SRH won the 2016 edition of the tournament. The Hyderabad based team has a brand value of Rs 483 crore.

4.) Royal Challengers Bangalore

One of the most popular teams in the IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a poor run in the past couple of seasons. The Virat Kohli-led side reached the IPL final in 2016 but lost the contest against SRH. The star-studded team is valued at Rs 595 crore.

3.) Kolkata Knight Riders

The two-time IPL trophy winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), have been a tremendous team in all seasons of the lucrative league. However, in the last season, they could only win six out of 14 games and failed to make it to the playoffs. KKR have a brand value of Rs 629 crore.

2.) Chennai Super Kings

One of the most consistent teams in the IPL is Chennai Super Kings (CSK). CSK is the only team in the cash-rich league to qualify for the playoffs in all the seasons they have played. The leader of the team MS Dhoni himself is one of the biggest brands in India. In this list, CSK is valued at INR 732 crore.

After winning the 2019 edition of IPL, Mumbai Indians (MI) became the only team to capture the coveted trophy four times. They have also won the Champions League two times. MI is based in India’s commercial capital, Mumbai. The most successful team in the IPL has a brand value of INR 809 crore.
