The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 final will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, March 8 – International Women’s Day.

India and Australia qualified for the big final after the conclusion of semi-finals at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday, March 5.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India progressed as the top-ranked team in Group A after their semifinal match against England was abandoned due to rain. Host and defending champions Australia defeated South Africa by five runs in the second semi-final.

Global music superstar Katy Perry will first perform two songs to get the final underway and then return for a post-match concert, with her full band, once the on-field presentations get over.

Timings for fans (all times local / AEDT):

  • 11:00am onwards: Fanzone in Yarra Park precinct (closes at 6:00pm – more details below)
  • 3:30pm – Gates open
  • 5:00pm – Fans encouraged to ARRIVE EARLY and be in their seats to experience the full pre-game show
  • 5:30pm – Katy Perry pre-match performance
  • 6:00pm – Match starts

The match will be played for around three hours, subject to any delays for reasons such as weather, and the on-field presentation with the winning team follows. Katy Perry’s post-match concert will then take place.

Till Friday, more than 75,000 tickets were sold out for a match which will mark the culmination of a 17-day, 10-team, tournament that has proved both entertaining and competitive.

For Australia, Ellyse Perry will take no part in what is shaping to be a historic moment in the women’s game. Ellyse was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament after sustaining a hamstring injury during the hosts’ four-run win over New Zealand in Melbourne.
