Former Australia batsman Michael Hussey was one of the most skillful cricketers the world has ever seen. His ability to knock-out any bowling unit in crunch situations was enough to explain the kind of talent he was during his cricketing days.
The left-handed genius played a lot of vital knocks for his national team, which earned him goodwill at a global level in cricket and it was the prime reason that he played in one of the most successful teams in IPL, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Meanwhile, amid lockdown, CSK cricketers are seen challenging each other on social media to reveal their favourite moments in IPL. Recently, former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis shared his favourite IPL moments and challenged Hussey to follow the trend.
Now, the former Aussie great has revealed those moments which he liked the most in the lucrative league. The 44-year-old remembered Du Plessis’ marvellous innings in IPL 2018 qualifiers against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The former Proteas cricketer smashed 67 off 42 balls against Sunrisers bowlers and helped his side to chase down the target.
“We were in trouble at the Wankhede Stadium, Rashid Khan was bowling very well. Faf opened the batting and hung in there. We weren’t sure how we were going to win the match, but he hit the winning runs against Bhuvneshwar Kumar and got us into that final.”
Next, ‘Mr Cricketer’ went for his CSK skipper MS Dhoni’s all-time great innings played at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). In that match, Dhoni took CSK over the line against KXIP by striking 16 runs off the four balls of the last over bowled by Irfan Pathan.
“In Dharamsala, coming into the game, we were in the fifth position, outside the top four. We had to win; the game was tight; it came right down the wire. MSD was out in the middle, Irfan Pathan was bowling for KXIP. We needed 12 to win off the last two balls, and of course, captain cool hit two sixes in a row. Again were good enough to go and win the final against Mumbai Indians. That one memory really stands out to me.”
Hussey then passed the baton to former Indian medium-pacer Lakshmipathy Balaji who also showed his magic for CSK. While nominating the veteran, Hussey also recalled the hat-trick taken by him in the inaugural season of the lucrative league.
