April 29 marks the birthday of superhuman Andre Russell, who has been an integral part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for several seasons now.
Russell was one of the three players retained by KKR ahead of the mega auction of 2018, along with Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn.
After spending a season with Delhi Daredevils, Russell came in as a replacement for KKR’s talismanic batsman Jacques Kallis in 2014. Since then, Russell proved to be indispensable for the Shahrukh Khan owned franchise.
On his birthday, the social media handle of KKR released a video of him performing a karaoke track along with captain Dinesh Karthik and CEO Venky Mysore.
“Watch birthday boy @Russell12A singing Hindi song ‘Subah hone na de’ Dre Russ is one of them ‘Desi Boyz’ after all! May you keep entertaining us on and off the field for many years to come!#HappyBirthdayAndre #DreRuss #Bollywood #KolkataKnightRiders #Cricket,” captioned KKR’s tweet.

Dre Russ fired with all guns blazing adding a brute force and amassed 501 runs in 14 games at a destructive strike rate of 204- most by any batsman in the season. He was the leading run-getter for KKR in the 2019 season of IPL.
His knock against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), coming in to bat late and demolishing the bowling attack, finishing an improbable chase will be etched in the memories of fanatics worldwide for a long time.
However, the muscular all-rounder, who was earlier banned for consuming prohibited substances, could not help his team reach the playoffs. Russell and Karthik’s difference in opinions even went public during press conferences.
Under normal circumstances, Russell would have donned the colours of KKR in the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The tournament was, however, suspended indefinitely amid COVID-19 outbreak in India.
