Aakash Chopra picks one player from each country to form World T20I XI

Amid Coronavirus pandemic, cricketers be it former or current active players, are engaging in different activities on the social media platform to interact with fans. Some are participating in live chat sessions while some are coming up with their best or unique XI combining of players from across the globe. Carrying the same process, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has revealed his World T20 XI featuring one cricketer from each country.

Chopra selected his team after the challenge was thrown on social media platform by ICC, asking fans to make World XI with a condition of including only one player from a country. This was the reason that Chopra could only elect one Indian cricketer.

“Recently I spotted something interesting that the ICC did. They asked fans to pick the best T20I XI in the world – with a condition of course! You can pick ONLY 1 PLAYER from each country. Really challenging exercise actually. So I thought I’d share my team with you all. Have a go as well, and share your team in the comments below. Remember the CONDITION very carefully, guys!” Chopra wrote on Facebook.

Among the openers, Chopra picked attacking Australian batsman David Warner and incredible England player Jos Buttler. For the next two positions, the Delhi-born chose Kiwi star Colin Munro and talented Pakistani batsman Babar Azam.

Despite having options like Virat Kohli and Rohit Kohli who are the leading run-scorers in the shortest format, Chopra didn’t select them for the top-order. He went with an other Indian player, down the order. The cricketer-turned commentator picked India’s frontline bowler Jasprit Bumrah as the only Indian in his XI.

“People must be thinking if I haven’t picked Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the top four then where will I place them; unfortunately, I can’t find a place for them as I have to pick only one Indian,” added the cricket expert.

Apart from Bumrah, Chopra picked ace Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga along with the spin pair of Rashid Khan and Sandeep Lamichhane, as bowlers. For the all-rounders’ spots, Chopra went with veteran Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and power-striker from West Indies, Andre Russell.

Here is Aakash Chopra’s World T20I XI:

David Warner, Jos Buttler, Colin Munro, Babar Azam, AB de Villiers, Shakib Al Hasan, Andre Russell, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Lamichhane, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga.
