Cricketers these days are spending time at homes and engaging in various activities in order to interact with their fans and followers. Since the lockdown has started worldwide, cricketers be it men or women have increased their social media presence by regularly featuring in chat shows on different platforms. Some are participating in Instagram LIVE sessions while some are involving themselves in podcast symposiums.
Following the trend, Indian women star cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues had joined a Super Over podcast with JP Duminy and Liam Flint in the month of March where she was asked to pick her all-time XI of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Jemimah started the business by naming Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner as openers. In 126 games, Warner has scored 4706 runs – highest by a foreign player. Rohit, on the other hand, is the third-highest run-scorer in the lucrative league having scored as many as 4898 runs in 188 matches.
The middle-order batter next picked Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli, and dextrous batsman AB de Villiers for the third and fourth position, respectively. Kohli with 5412 runs in his account is the leading run-getter in the history of IPL. Similarly, De Villiers has accumulated 4395 runs, and he is the third-most run-scorer amongst overseas cricketers.
For the all-rounders, Jemimah went with West Indies’ power-striker Andre Russell, England’s most exceptional talent of the 21st century, Ben Stokes, and former Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi. Russell has played 64 games and scored 1400 runs with a phenomenal strike-rate of 186.41 – highest by any player in the cash-rich league.
For the captain and wicket-keeper, Jemimah picked one of the most successful captains in the history of IPL, MS Dhoni. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper holds the record of smashing the maximum number of sixes (209) in the tournament amongst Indian players and third overall.
Jasprit Bumrah is the only specialist seamer while Rashid Khan and Ravindra Jadeja are the spinners in Jemimah’s all-time IPL XI. Jadeja has featured in 170 games and has taken 108 wickets – 10th most by any bowler. Bumrah, on the other hand, has bagged 82 scalps in 77 games.
