Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has made giant strides in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is knocking the doors for a consistent run in the national team for a long period now.
Despite being called up to the side for the first time in 2014, the Kerala lad has only featured in four T20Is for India so far. In a recent interview, Sanju recalled that he had first shared a dressing room with India veteran MS Dhoni during the 2014 tour of England.
“I first shared the dressing room with him [MS Dhoni] when we went to England,” Samson said during a chat with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) social media presenter Rupha Ramani.
Samson finally got an opportunity to play under Dhoni when India ‘A’ took on England in 2017 for a practice match before the ODI series. Dhoni led the India ‘A’ team for one last time, and Samson featured in that playing XI. The 25-year-old revealed that he had a dream once. In that dream, he had seen MSD giving him instructions to change his fielding position.
“I had a dream that Mahi bhai is the captain of the team. He is changing fields. I was standing in slips or something and he said, ‘Sanju waha ja’,” Samson stated. The young cricketer further said that this finally happened in reality when he played for India’ A’ in that match.
“I was in the slips when he said, ‘Sanju udhar jaa’,” the Rajasthan Royals (RR) star player added.
Fans will have to wait to see Sanju Samson and MS Dhoni in action with the IPL 2020 postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic. Initially, slated to begin on March 29, the cash-rich tournament was delayed until April 15 before it was officially suspended for the foreseeable future due to the nationwide lockdown.
