Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Afsar Zazai, recently met with a gruesome car accident where he suffered an injury to his head.

The news has raised more concerns for Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) which is currently fire-fighting amid cricket hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The coronavirus outbreak hampered associate cricket boards the most including ACB. However, the cricketers have resumed their training and preparation for their upcoming assignment. It is still unknown when, where and who the Afghans play next.

Last year, Zazai was called in as a replacement for first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad in the 2019 ODI World Cup. He played all six group matches in the tournament.

The 26-year old was criticized for his frail hitting abilities and low strike-rate, coming in lower down the order.

He last featured in the Test match against West Indies hosted in Lucknow in November 2019. The news of Zazai’s accident was broken by senior journalist and former media manager of the Afghanistan cricket team, M Ibrahim Momand.

Momand uploaded the picture of the demolished front end of the car, along with Zazai who escaped the accident with a minor injury to his head.

“National cricketer wicket-keeper batsman @AfsarZazai_78 survived in a car accident with minor injuries in his head but his car damaged most. May Allah bless you. get well soon bro,” captioned Momand’s tweet.

Since making his debut in 2013, Zazai has represented Afghanistan in three Tests, 17 ODIs and a solitary T20I game against Kenya at Sharjah.
