Most of the cricketers these days are not taking part in any kind of training sessions as the coronavirus pandemic has put brakes on the cricketing activities. So, they are heading towards social media platforms to interact with their fans and share some interesting experiences. Following the bandwagon, England women cricketer Danielle Wyatt has revealed how she met Arjun Tendulkar, the son of India legend Sachin Tendulkar, and quickly became close friends.
“So, I first met Sachin and Arjun at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Maybe 2009 or 2010 when I was with MCC young cricketers, and they were training in the nets. Literally, I went to the nets and said hello and introduced myself, saying I am Danni, etc.,” Wyatt told cricket.com.
“Arjun would have been 10 years old back then; he was so small. There is a photo somewhere on Google. I bowled to him that day; he was very good,” she added.
Wyatt stated, from that time Arjun has developed himself into a fast bowler. She also shared a light-hearted conversation with Arjun, when the latter told her that he would knock her head off with bouncers.
“Since then whenever I bump into Sachin or Arjun or whenever they come to Lord’s to train, I go to the nets and ask him (Arjun) to bowl with the new ball to me. But he is getting very quick now. He always says I will bounce you and knock your head off, so I don’t like him bowling to me anymore. He is getting too dangerous to face,” Wyatt added further.
The Staffordshire cricketer also recalled the moment when she met the legendary Sachin during the Women’s T20 World Cup held in Australia earlier this year. She also praised Sachin’s spouse, Anjali Tendulkar.
“They are a lovely family. Arjun’s mom is also lovely. Recently, I bumped into Sachin in Australia during the World Cup. It is nice to see them whenever I see them,” articulated Wyatt.
Speaking about Arjun, then he hasn’t yet featured in first-class or List-A cricket, but since he is a regular visitor to England, Arjun can be often seen bowling to international players. In 2018, when Virat Kohli and Co. visited the UK, Arjun was seen bowling to the Indian cricketers.
Wyatt, on the other hand, was a member of England’s 2017 World Cup-winning squad. She has so far played 74 ODIs and 109 T20Is for England. Wyatt has scored 1028 runs in ODIs and 1588 in the shortest format. She also has 27 wickets to her name in the 50-over set-up and 46 scalps in T20Is.
