Pakistan’s genius batsman Babar Azam is unquestionably an incredible talent. Thanks to his supreme consistency in all the formats, Babar has constructed his image as one of the most bewitching batsmen of modern-day cricket. Due to his excellent display of cricket, last year Babar was made the T20I skipper of the Pakistan team, and recently, he was honoured with the ODI captaincy as well.
Babar’s perpetual run-making ability has seen him being compared to Indian captain and leading run-scorer of modern cricket, Virat Kohli. Lots of fans and cricket pundits believe that Babar has all the potential to be like Kohli in the international showground.
However, the 25-year-old doesn’t like when he is compared with Indian skipper. Babar instead wants Pakistani fans to assess him with the likes of some legendary Pakistani players like Javed Miandad or Younis Khan.
“I don’t want to be compared with Virat Kohli. It would be better if people compare me with one of the Pakistani legends like Javed Miandad, Mohammad Yousuf or Younis Khan. If you compare me to these legends, I will like it more and feel proud of my accomplishments,” Babar said while speaking to Pakistan media from Worcestershire as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
Earlier, during an interview with Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz, Babar had regarded Kohli as one of the best in the business. The limited-over skipper of Pakistan had also expressed that he just wants to perform for his team and impress the fans of Pakistani team.
“People tend to compare us a lot. In my opinion, he (Kohli) is one of the best batsmen. I still have to achieve a lot in my career. I will try to be like him, win matches for my team, make records like him. I don’t like to compare myself with great players; I only try to satisfy myself, my team and our supporters. I just want to give fans the moment of happiness. I want Pakistan to win,” Babar had said.
