ENG vs WI: West Indies’ legends shower praises for Jason Holder & Co.’s heroic win in Southampton Test

Looking at West Indies’ record in Test cricket against England in the last three years, it is fair to say that the ‘Maroon Caps’ have had the wood over the ‘Three Lions’.

During the Southampton Test, West Indies continued their excellent record against England, with their thumping four-wicket win over the hosts.

Chasing 200 in the fourth innings is always tricky, with the side capitulating several times under pressure.

The visitors were looking down the barrel at one point in time when reduced to 27/3, and John Campbell retired hurt.

However, it was Jermaine Blackwood who turned out to be the hero of the day. Blackwood shepherded his team almost across the finishing line, with a fine knock of 95.

As soon as the winning runs were hit, the West Indies team was showered with praises from their legends.

The likes of Viv Richards, Courtney Walsh, Ian Bishop, Brian Lara and Dwayne Bravo lauded Jason Holder and Co. for their outstanding performance.

“First game after the break belongs to us! Some gritty performance from the lads. This team deserves the win in this game. Congratulations boys. You make us proud,” Sir Viv Richards tweeted.

“Congratulations !! Well done to the entire team Captain Jason Holder and coach Phil Simmons,” Bravo wrote on Twitter.

“Can’t speak highly enough about the skill and character shown by @windiescricket . Very well coached and led by @Coachsim13 and @Jaseholder98 . Kudos to Gabriel and Blackwood as well for outstanding contributions. Yes still two test to go but good start,” Bishop tweeted.

“Great Test match victory! Well done to @Jaseholder98 and the boys. To the coaching and management staff great job getting the guys ready. #ENGvWI,” Lara responded via Twitter.

West Indies’ legendary pacer Courtney Walsh also congratulated the Caribbean team for their memorable victory, “Great characters shown in this win by some key players.. congratulations to coach, capt and team,” he tweeted.
