Former India captain MS Dhoni turned 39 on Tuesday (July 7). The Ranchi-born Dhoni, who is regarded as one of the most successful captains in the world, has been away from cricket for nearly a year, and yet conversations about his return, or future retirement have never died out.

Such is the stature of the man known by the moniker ‘Captain Cool’ that fans continue to wait with bated breath and hope that they would get to see Dhoni donning the Indian jersey at least one more time.

In his career as a captain, Dhoni led India to two World Cup titles – 2007 World T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup. As India sealed the Champions Trophy in 2013, Dhoni became the first captain to have won all three ICC tournaments.

Several members of the Indian cricket fraternity, including batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and the ‘Player of the tournament’ of 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh, took to Twitter to wish Dhoni the best on his special day.

“Happy birthday @msdhoni! May God bless you with good health and happiness in life. Have a great year ahead,” tweeted Sachin.

“Janamdin ki bahut, bahut badhayi @msdhoni. On your special day here’s a throwback pic of some epic partnerships on the field! Hope you and your family are doing well and staying safe,” Yuvraj wrote.

KL Rahul also took to Instagram and wrote: “Here’s wishing the legend MS Dhoni a very happy birthday. May you continue to inspire everyone around you.”

Dhoni has played 90 Tests for India in which he clubbed 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09. He has also played 350 ODIs in which he has scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman has also played 98 T20Is for his country in which he has scored 1,617 runs at an average of 37.60.
