The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 is all set to commence on Tuesday (August 18). A total of 33 games will be played in this year’s CPL with all the matches to take place in Trinidad and Tobago.

Two stadiums, the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba and the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, will host all the games. While the Brian Lara stadium will host the maximum 23 matches, the remaining 10 games will be played in the Queen’s Park.

Not to mention that every contest will take place behind closed doors in a bio-secure environment due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Last year’s runners-up, Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW), will take on three-time champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the opening game of the T20 tournament.

TKR vs GAW, Probable XI:

Trinbago Knight Riders:

TKR is the most successful side in the history of CPL having won the coveted trophy three times. So, they would be looking to bag another one in the 2020 season. Veteran T20 star Kieron Pollard will captain the team which consists of multiple experienced players like Dwayne Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Sunil Narine and Colin Munro.

Their latest addition Pravin Tambe will also be getting a lot of attention. Unlike other teams, most overseas players of TKR have joined the squad for the opening contest. Narine will be a crucial player for the Knight Riders due to his all-round abilities.

Probable XI: Sunil Narine, Lendl Simmons, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Tim Seifert (wk), Kieron Pollard (c), Dwayne Bravo, Sikandar Raza, Khary Pierre, Fawad Ahmed, Anderson Phillip.

Guyana Amazon Warriors:

The last year’s runner-up, Warriors would be looking forward to play with a similar momentum but would want to win the 2020 edition. Opener Brandon King with 496 runs in 12 games was the highest run-scorer in the 2019 season, and he will again try to play the role of the architect when it comes to posting big totals.

Attacking batsman Shimron Hetmyer along with veteran New Zealand international Ross Taylor will boost up the middle-order. Wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran, along with explosive all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford and Keemo Paul will play the role of finishers.

Australian spinner Chris Green who will also lead the side in the 2020 edition, will come handy lower down the order. Although, Shoaib Malik, Shadab Khan and Qais Ahmed will not be available, but the likes of Imran Tahir and Romario Shepherd will be crucial for Warriors.

Probable XI: Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor, Nicholas Pooran(wk), Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul, Chris Green(c), Odean Smith, Imran Tahir, Naveen-ul-Haq.
