The much-awaited England versus Pakistan Test series started on Wednesday (August 05) at the Old Trafford in Manchester where the visitors won the toss and elected to bat first on Day 1.

England entered the first Test of the three-match series with the same team which they played during the last Test against West Indies.

Veteran bowling pair of England team, James Anderson and Stuart Broad, started the proceedings, but they did not have an ideal start as the pair failed to provide an early breakthrough. It was, however, Jofra Archer who came to the rescue in grand fashion as he shattered the stumps of Pakistan opening batsman Abid Ali.

It all happened in the 16th over, when Archer bowled an absolute peach of a delivery. In the first ball of the over, the English paceman bowled a full and straight delivery, and Abid through his late feet movement allowed the ball to go between his bat and pad.

With the dismissal, the 36-run partnership off 71 balls between Abid and Shan Masood’s was also broken.
Pakistan openers showed immense determination to survive the new ball, especially against the likes of Broad and Anderson, but Archer spoiled the party for the tourists.

Here is the video:

In December 2019, Abid made his Test debut for Pakistan in the series against Sri Lanka. In the first three games, the 32-year-old exhibited his sheer class and accumulated 321 runs at a marvellous average of 107 with a couple of centuries.
