Days ahead of the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni underwent coronavirus (COVID-19) test in Ranchi on Wednesday (August 12).
And the good news is that Dhoni would be leaving for Chennai on August 14 to join his franchise’s conditioning camp at the Chepauk.
Dhoni, the three-time IPL winning captain, needed to undergo the test to fulfil the SOP set by IPL Governing Council. He has been spending time at his farmhouse in Ranchi even before the lockdown in India began in March.
As per the protocols issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), two negative tests are mandatory for each player before the franchises reach the UAE. Anybody who tests positive will have to be quarantined for 14 days and will have to undergo two tests post that. Only when both the tests are negative, the individuals will be allowed to leave for the UAE.
All eyes will be on Dhoni’s performance in IPL 2020 – which is scheduled to be played from September 19 to November 10 – as a good performance in the franchise-based T20 tournament will pave the way for Mahi’s return to the Indian team.
Earlier, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan had confirmed that the entire team will be flying to the UAE on August 21.
“The entire team will be flying to the UAE on August 21 and all the arrangements related to it have been made,” CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan told WION on Tuesday while adding that the team will put their base in Dubai.
“Dhoni, Raina and every other Indian player from the squad will reach Chennai by August 15 and after that, we will have a small camp to get everyone on the same page,” Vishwanathan added.
