India’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, MS Dhoni, drew curtains to his glittering career on Saturday, with an Instagram post.

All important decisions made by the Jharkhand cricketer have been mystical over the years. Dhoni also shocked one and all with his decision to quit red-ball cricket amid an ongoing Test series against Australia in 2014.

Despite several speculations floating around in the public sphere regarding Dhoni’s imminent retirement from international cricket, the news has surprised everyone.

More so for the ardent MSD fans, who have a lump in their throat while paying tribute to their idol. In a utopian world, Dhoni should have hung up his boots on the field, while playing his farewell match. Even former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar also expressed his displeasure regarding how Dhoni chose to retire from the game.

His stature in Indian cricket is close to ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar, who played his farewell match against West Indies, at his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Now, Jharkhand Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, has requested BCCI to host a farewell game for Dhoni at his home ground in Ranchi.

“I wish to appeal to BCCI to hold a farewell match for MS Dhoni which will be hosted by all of Jharkhand and witnessed by the whole world,” Soren took to Twitter to register his opinion.

“Mahi, who gave the country and Jharkhand several moments to remember, has retired from international cricket today. We won’t be able to watch our favourite son of Jharkhand in the blue jersey any more. But the hearts of the countrymen are not full yet. I want Mahi to play a farewell match in Ranchi,” he added.

Also, the Home Minister of India, Amit Shah congratulated Dhoni for completing his terrific international career. “I join millions of cricket fans across the globe to thank @msdhoni for his unparalleled contributions to Indian Cricket. His cool temperament has turned several hot encounters in India’s favour. Under his captaincy India was crowned World Champions twice in different formats,” tweeted Shah.
