Australian middle-order batsman Peter Handscomb used a hilarious meme reference in his congratulatory post for MS Dhoni.
Handscomb used a ‘Me vs the guy she asked me not to worry about’ reference to depict the masterclass of Dhoni.
Dhoni’s former Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) colleague, Handscomb, used a couple of stills from Indo-Australian ODI encounters during the 2019-2020 season.
India defeated Australia by 2-1 in the ODI series held in Australia. But the Aussies came back from behind in the return series, with their 3-2 win.
Dhoni’s excellence with the bat as well as his astute leadership eclipsed the wizardly skills behind the stumps. Over the years, Dhoni affected numerous dismissals on his own, with his lightning stumpings and presence of mind inflicted run-out dismissals.
The Indian talisman was such a feared campaigner with the gloves that no batsman dared to charge the bowlers or sneak a quick double.
During one of the ODI games in Australia in 2018, Handscomb fell victim to Dhoni’s tremendous work behind the stumps. In return, Handscomb could not replicate the Dhoni with the gloves in one of the return-leg fixtures.
An outstretched Dhoni, while trying to get back to the crease almost performed a perfect split, and saved his wicket.
“You vs the man she told you not to worry about. Congratulations to @mahi7781 on an amazing international cricket career,” captioned Handscomb’s post.
Both Handscomb and Dhoni faced off against each other on several occasions during the Indo-Australian encounters in coloured clothing.
Dhoni even captained Handscomb during their brief stint together at the RPS camp. As soon as the news of Dhoni’s retirement broke, several prominent figures from Australian cricket poured in their wishes and congratulated the legend.
