The greatest legacy left behind by India’s talisman MS Dhoni was a ready-made quality side for current captain Virat Kohli to take over.
Kohli’s captaincy harps on the present Indian pace attack which is arguably the best in the world. The five-pronged seam attack of India in the whites consists of Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav.
In recent outings for India in the away Test matches, Delhi speedster Ishant has displayed his maturity and expertise in red-ball cricket.
Moreover, it took a number of years for Ishant to establish himself at the highest level. It was Ishant who bowled the game-changing over in the final of 2013 Champions Trophy.
Ishant was tried by Dhoni for several years in white-ball cricket but failed to cement his place. However, it was the longest format of the game in which he excelled in, picking three short of 300 wickets in almost 100 Test caps.
It was only due to the faith entrusted on the lanky seamer by Dhoni, which helped him find success much later in his career.
Now, Ishant has opened up on the trolls received by him from Dhoni regarding his age.
“Actually, mentally main 32 se zyada ka ho chuka hun. Meri biwi mujhe buddha bolti hai. Mahi bhai ka bhi mujhe message aata hain aur woh bhi mujhe bolte hain ‘aur buddhe, kya kar raha hai?’. Main unko bolta hun ‘Mahi bhai, main 32 saal ka hun’, toh woh kehte hain ‘teri age 32 hai, lekin tera sharir 52 ka hai beta’ (Mentally, I am over 32 now. My wife already refers to me as an ‘old man’. Even MS Dhoni messages me and says, ‘what’s up, old man?’. To this, I tell him, ‘Dhoni bhai, I am only 32.’ He replies, ‘Your age is 32 but your body is around 52, son’),” Ishant told Deep Dasgupta on Espncricinfo show ‘Cricket Baazi’.
