Ahead of the much anticipated mega auctions for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, various franchises have started brainstorming regarding who will they retain and who to release before reaching the auction stage.

As per the players’ retention rules, franchises are supposed to retain four players with a combination of either two Indians and as many overseas or three Indians and one foreign player. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Delhi Capitals (DC) have revealed the list of players they would want to retain for the upcoming edition of the lucrative league.

The reports state that DC have gone with captain Rishabh Pant, opening batsman Prithvi Shaw, spinner Axar Patel and overseas pacer Anrich Nortje. Shaw was the second-highest run-getter for DC in IPL 2021. The Mumbaikar made 479 runs in 15 matches with four fifties.

Further, it was mentioned that Shreyas Iyer opted to head to the player auction. Notably, Pant was named the captain for DC after Iyer dislocated his shoulder and was ruled out of the tournament earlier this year in March. The Mumbaikar returned for the second leg and played under Pant.

Interestingly, DC didn’t go with senior batter Shikhar Dhawan, who has been a consistent run-getter for the Delhi-based franchise. The left-handed batter was the leading run-scorer for DC in the 2021 season of the cash-rich league. He managed to score 587 runs in 16 games with the help of three half-centuries.

Regarding the prize bracket concerning the retention of players, If a team retains four players, they lose INR 42 crore from the INR 90 crore purse. Similarly, If the team retains three players, that’s INR 33 crore. Likewise, INR 24 crore for two players and INR 14 crore for just one player.

When it comes to a retained uncapped player, he gets a maximum of INR 4 crore. Notably, the player has the ultimate authority to decide whether he wants to be retained or not. Since the Capitals have decided to stop four players, they will enter the upcoming auction with a purse of INR 48 crore.
