India’s Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu made history as she was crowned Miss Universe 2021 in a glitzy ceremony at the Red Sea port of Eilat in Israel on Monday. The 21-year-old Chandigarh-based model brought home the coveted crown after 21 years.

Sandhu advanced to the final round out of 80 contestants from all corners of the world, and then just edged out Miss Paraguay Nadia Ferreira and Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane in the last three to take over the crown from reigning Miss Universe, Miss Mexico Andrea Meza.

In the viral going video, Sandhu was seen shouting out loud after making her country proud. She was surrounded by other women who participated in the Miss Universe beauty pageant as well. “Chak de phatte, India,” shouted Sandhu in the video.

“Congratulations! Much awaited. “India’s Harnaaz Sandhu is Miss Universe 2021,” wrote sports anchor Ridhima Pathak.

“Chandigarh’s very own daughter brings the Crown to India after 21 years and winning hearts around the world.
Congratulations to Harnaaz Sandhu, #MissUniverse2021 Winner,” said IPL franchise Punjab Kings in their congratulatory message.

“Congratulations @HarnaazSandhu03 On becoming #MissUniverse2021 We’re so proud of you for becoming the first sikh woman to be crowned the miss universe title. It’s a moment of great pride for our country,” tweeted Punjab cricketer Harpreet Brar.
