The Indian team has started well under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Rahul Dravid. Under his tenure, India faced New Zealand in the three-match T20I series and two-match Test leg at home. The hosts whitewashed Black Caps in the T20I series and won the Test leg by 1-0.
T20I skipper Rohit Sharma, who led India in the shortest format against New Zealand as his first full-time captaincy project, recently shared his views on Dravid’s impact on the team and observed that latter’s hard-working attitude would reflect on the team.
“Rahul Bhai was a brilliant cricketer; we all know that without a doubt. We all know how he has played his cricket. He himself has come out and said on so many occasions that he was not so talented. He had to work so hard to get where he is today. I think that is going to reflect on this team as well,” said Rohit on Boria Majumdar‘s show, ‘Backstage with Boria’.
Rohit, who was appointed as Team India’s full-time ODI skipper on Wednesday, further praised Dravid and said he has personally spoken to each player concerning their feelings about themselves in the team environment. The Mumbaikar mentioned that Dravid knows most of the players even before joining the head coach position due to his previous stints with India-A, Under-19s and NCA chief.
“If I’m not wrong, he’s gone personally to each one of us and spoken about what they feel about themselves and what sort of role they look for in this team and what they have to offer, which position will be their best position to bat, etc. Same with the bowlers as well. Obviously, he’s been working with India A and India U-19s, and he was the NCA head. So he knows each player in and out. It’s not like he doesn’t know anyone. He has that bond with everyone; now it’s just about taking that forward and taking it to the next level,” added Rohit.
