The fifth and final Test of the ongoing Ashes 2021-22 series between Australia and England will be played at the Bellerive Oval (Blundstone Arena) in Hobart. Further, this will also be the second Day/Night fixture of the series, with Adelaide scheduled to host the first Pink-Ball game for the second Test.

Originally, the fifth Test was scheduled to take place at Optus Stadium in Perth, but Western Australia’s border restrictions forced Cricket Australia to find some other venue.

Hobart was also picked to host the Test between Australia and Afghanistan last month, but the match was postponed due to the political situation in Afghanistan. Notably, It would be the first time Tasmania will host a Men’s Ashes Test since 2016.

“We are delighted to announce that Blundstone Arena in Hobart will be hosting an Ashes Test match for the first time and thank the Tasmanian government for its support. I would like to thank all the states and territories that took part in this process. The submissions we received were outstanding, and we had no doubt that each of the venues that took part would have hosted a wonderful event,” Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley said on Saturday as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“There were a range of considerations, including commercial, logistical and operational factors, and on the balance of these, the CA board agreed on Blundstone Arena being the most appropriate venue to host the fifth Vodafone Men’s Ashes Test,” he added.
