On Tuesday, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the upcoming Under-19 World Cup 2021.

Left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan was picked to lead the defending champions. Rakibul was a member of the 2020 title-winning side. The 15-member squad will travel to the UAE on December 20 for the Asia Cup and then fly to the West Indies from Dubai to defend their global title.

“We have picked Rakibul as he is the senior-most player of the team and can handle the boys well in the field,” BCB game development chief selector Sazzad Ahmed told Cricbuzz.

Notably, the ICC event will be held in the West Indies from January 14 – February 05, 2022. Bangladesh, who are placed in Group A, will start their U-19 World Cup campaign against England on Saturday, January 15. They will play their remaining two group games against Canada and the United Arab Emirates on January 19 and 21, respectively.

The last year’s finalists, India, are placed in Group B along with Ireland, South Africa, and Uganda, while Pakistan are in Group C, featuring other teams such as Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, and Zimbabwe.

Similarly, Group D consists of Australia, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and hosts West Indies. Scotland have replaced New Zealand in the group after the Black Caps had withdrawn from participating in the tournament due to the mandatory quarantine restrictions for minors that they would have to face on their return journey from the competition.

Here is Bangladesh U-19 Squad:
