The Ashes 2021-22 concluded on Sunday with hosts Australia winning the fifth and final Test by 146 runs to hand over England a 4-0 defeat in the five-match series. The visitors produced a fightback in the fourth Test in Sydney, which ended in a draw, to make inroads for their consolation victory in the Hobart Test.
However, another batting collapse saw the Joe Root-led side face an embarrassing defeat. England needed 271 to chase, and their openers gave a solid start, adding 68 runs for the first wicket. But once Cameron Green got rid of Burns right before the tea, it opened the floodgates as Aussies packed the English team for just 124 to win the contest by 146 runs.
After the conclusion of Ashes 2021-22, Australia improved their percentage of points (PCT) in the ongoing World Test Championship 2021-23 to 86.66 %. They have maintained their second spot with 52 points.
On the other hand, England, who were already placed at the last position, have further deteriorated their win percentage to 9.25 %. With only one victory out of nine matches, England only have 10 points and also have 10 penalty points so far for maintaining a slow over-rate.
When it comes to other teams, Sri Lanka are comfortably placed at the top spot with 24 points and a winning percentage of 100% after they won both matches they have played so far in this period. Similarly, Pakistan are at fourth place after winning three out of their six matches with a pct of 75% and 36 points.
Meanwhile, the recently-concluded Test series between South Africa and India saw the tourists losing one spot to fifth. At the same time, the Proteas advanced one position above the Indians thanks to their 2-1 series victory.
